Magnetophoresis of Tagged Polymers
نویسنده
چکیده
We present quantitative results for the drift velocity of a polymer in a gel if a force (e.g. through an electric or magnetic field) acts on a tag, attached to one of its ends. This is done by introducing a modification of the RubinsteinDuke model for electrophoresis of DNA. We analyze this modified model with exact and Monte Carlo calculations. Tagged magnetophoresis does not show band collapse, a phenomenon that limits the applicability of traditional electrophoresis to short polymers. Typeset using REVTEX

Inhomogeneous Reptation of Polymers
We study the motion of long polymers (eg DNA) in a gel under the influence of an external force acting locally on small segments of the polymer. In particular, we examine the dependence of the drift velocity on the position where the force acts and the length of the polymer. As an application, we discuss the possibility of gel magnetophoresis the size-separation of long polymers by the attachme...

We present a novel, user-friendly and widely autonomous point-of-care diagnostic to enable HIV monitoring in resource-poor regions where the current pandemic is most prevalent. To specifically isolate magnetically tagged CD4+ cells directly from patient blood, the low-cost and disposable microfluidic chip operates by dual-force CD4+ cell magnetophoresis; whereby the interplay of flow and magnet...

In this paper we present a modular lab-on-a-chip system for integrated sample pre-treatment (PT) by magnetophoresis and DNA amplification by polymerase chain reaction (PCR). It consists of a polymer-based microfluidic chip mounted on a custom-made thermocycler (Figure 1) and includes a simple and efficient method for switching the liquid flow between the PT and PCR chamber. Purification of huma...

Manipulation of magnetic beads plays an increasingly important role in molecular diagnostics. Magnetophoresis is a promising technique for selective transportation of magnetic beads in lab-on-a-chip systems. We investigate periodic arrays of exchange-biased permalloy microstripes fabricated using a single lithography step. Magnetic beads can be continuously moved across such arrays by combining...
